Guelph,
Gregory Hoskins
River Run Centre
Critically acclaimed Canadian roots-pop songwriter, and former front man with The Stickpeople, Gregory Hoskins has something to say. With writing that weaves a dark and moody sensibility into his musical collage, Hoskins has an eye for the absurdities of the human plight and an ear for putting it all to music. Through brutally honest confessions and observations, from the emotionally explosive to the sparse and introspective, the result is deeply personal. Hoskinsâ  stylistically diverse poetic pop connects with each phrase, emerging as a unique musical voice. $20/$18/

Guelph,
Hardscrabble Road
River Run Centre
Quite possibly the first "anti-globalization activist musical," Hardscrabble Road made its world debut in October 2003 at River Run Centre. An ambitious, ground-breaking production by Guelph songwriter James Gordon, inspired by both â The Beggar's Opera" and â The Threepenny Opera," it employs song, sharp political satire, and serious dramatic commentary to tell the tale of a group of homeless people in inner-city Canada. Six main characters and an on-stage band convey an important, timely, politically-charged message with a sense of humour - entirely in song. Featuring some of the Guelph area's finest performers - including Gordon himself as the narrator - the music is a hybrid of folk, pop, jazz, rock and world beat sounds. $20/$18/
