International Music Day is celebrated annually on October 1 around the world. Although International Music Day is traditionally celebrated on October 1, the Foundation's celebrations will take place on Sunday, September 30, 2007.
International Music Day was proclaimed by the U.N./UNESCO in 1975 as an annual event to celebrate music by Israeli violinist Yehudi Menhuin.
In 2003, the Edward Johnson Music Foundation took the initiative to celebrate this annual event in the City of Guelph and for the past four years has organized events in several venues throughout the city showcasing young music students, local musicians and music organizations. In 2006, International Music Day moved its day-long activities into Cooperators Hall, River Run Centre.
