Town of Fergus

Getting There:
Located north of Guelph, take Hwy. 6 to Fergus:
Picturesque Elora offers an incredible variety of activities, unique shopping opportunities, and exquisite scenery. Home of the breathtaking Elora Gorge Conservation Area, this is one of Ontario’s most beautiful villages. Many of the most popular activities here focus on the natural setting, but a lot of people also come for cultural events, for the leisurely and unique shopping and antiquing, and for food and drink in exquisite locales.
The Elora Village landscape stretching along the picturesque riverfront abounds with cafés and restaurants catering to the most discriminating palate, and unique shops. Elora is the locale of choice for unusual gift items that will not be found elsewhere, as well as intriguing vintage and heritage treasures in antique and collectible stores. Visitors can also enjoy leisurely meals or snacks served in picturesque settings.
Elora is also home of the Grand River Raceway, an exciting gaming and racing destination. “Slots at Grand River Raceway” is open seven days a week, year-round, a popular destination for anyone who enjoys “a bit of a flutter”.
The famous Elora Festival, one of the premier music events in Ontario, offers the best in classical entertainment through several mid-summer weeks. There are Elora Festival and Singers’ concerts prior to the summer festival, but music lovers really get excited about the summertime Elora Festival, July 10 through August 2.
However, a lot of people come to Elora for culture of a much more athletic or recreational sort. Elora with a very well-known conservation area is a favourite destination for campers, hikers and bicyclists... and, come the warm days of summer, offers every possible river adventure you can imagine, from canoeing to swimming to tubing. In the warm months, it is definitely “cool” to take in all the adventurous options the Elora Gorge offers.
A popular attraction in the Gorge is a zipline and rappelling experience, “Zipline Extreme.”
The warmer months are also a perfect time for visitors to cycle through the area on the Elora Cataract Trailway. This reclaimed, former railway track begins in Elora, runs through Fergus, continues over the Shand Dam and on through Belwood to the Forks of the Credit, 47 km. away.
Elora is one of the enticing communities of Centre Wellington, home of the Grand River, a Canadian Heritage Waterway.
Located between Fergus and Elora is the Wellington County Museum and Archives, a National Historic Site, recognized for its unique history as the oldest House of Industry in Canada. Twelve galleries of exhibits reflect the life stories of Wellington County people over the past centuries. Visitors enjoy displays that focus on the decorative arts and the Museum’s superb textile collection as well as travelling exhibitions, historical displays and installations by local artists.
